Hyperhydrosis Treatment

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can be a challenging condition affecting daily life and self-esteem. Botox (Botulinum toxin) has emerged as an effective treatment for managing this condition, particularly for underarm sweating. Botox is a neurotoxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is widely known for its cosmetic use in reducing wrinkles, but it also has several medical applications, including the treatment of hyperhidrosis. Botox works by blocking the nerves responsible for activating the sweat glands. When Botox is injected into the skin, it inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that stimulates sweat production. This effectively reduces sweating in the treated area.

The treatment starts with a prescription consultation where we will assess the severity of hyperhidrosis and determines if Botox is an appropriate treatment. On the day of treatment the area is cleaned and sometimes numbed with a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Botox is injected in small amounts just below the skin’s surface. Multiple injections are usually administered to cover the entire affected area. After the treatment, normal activities can be resumed immediately, though it’s advised to avoid strenuous exercise and hot environments for 24 hours. Common areas treated with Botox include underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), palms and soles, and the face and scalp. Underarm treatment is the most common and FDA-approved area for Botox treatment. The onset of results is typically seen within 4 to 7 days after treatment. Results can last from 4 to 12 months, with the average being around 6 months. Regular follow-up treatments are needed to maintain dryness. Botox offers several benefits for hyperhidrosis treatment. It is minimally invasive compared to surgical options, has a quicker recovery time, and provides significant reduction in sweating, improving quality of life and comfort. Additionally, it is FDA approved for treating underarm hyperhidrosis, ensuring its safety and efficacy.
